LG V20 officially launches with dual rear cameras and Nougat

LG V20 price and release date

New price and release date details for the LG V20 have emerged on Reddit. A redditor posted claims of inside information about the V20's release on T-Mobile. According to the post, T-Mobile will begin accepting pre-orders on September 14, with a "likely" release date of September 23. The phone will reportedly cost $650. Other leaked details include three bonuses. The first is an extra battery and 'enhanced hand grip'; bonus two is a memory module attachment, and the third is a year of Hulu and three Vudu rentals. The latter would be a T-Mobile exclusive.

LG has now set LG V20 release date. In a brief statement published on its site, the South Korean manufacturer will unveil the V20 on September 6 in San Francisco. The invitation posted with the announcement shows a pop-up booklet with the words 'Play More' scribbled over the top. This hints that the V20 could be the most versatile hardware offering from LG – an even more important device than the G5.

LG previously published a statement confirming the release of the LG V20 and its name. Not only that, but we know that it will run Android 7.0 Nougat right out of the box. Read more about that in the 'Features' section below.

With updates to Marshmallow creeping out slowly since it was released last year, the immediate availability of the latest Android version on a new device would come as welcome news to many potential LG customers. Along with the flagship specs it's expected to have, LG added that the V20 would "set new standards" among the cohort of premium phones with "more expanded multimedia capabilities".

News of the production of an LG V20 first broke on South Korean website ET News, where details of the upcoming device were posted. Interestingly, a September launch puts it directly into competitive iPhone 7 territory. However, bringing a flagship release date forward is nothing new, with Samsung shifting the upcoming Galaxy Note 7 launch a couple of weeks earlier to August 2.

Pricing for the LG V20 is likely to be in line with that of last year's V10, although it's still unconfirmed. With a retail price of around $600 for last year's model, expect the V20 to cost around the same price at launch. Once pricing details are out, we'll update this article.

LG V20 specs

A new specs leak has appeared, supplying a fresh batch of information about the upcoming LG V20 ahead of its launch. While specs have already leaked online, giving us some insight into what this phone will probably offer, the latest leak going a little deeper into what kind of flagship we'll be dealing with.

As seen on Weibo and published here, the leak suggests the V20 could come with a 5.7 inch 2K display, Snapdragon 820 processor, 4 GB of RAM, a dual 16 MP rear camera setup and 4,000 mAh battery. We saw some of these specs appear in a previous leak, so it's not all entirely fresh news to us. But having some of them reconfirmed in multiple places gives us a lot more confidence that this will be what LG announces at the launch event tomorrow.

A previous specs dump gave us a lot of information about how good the LG V20 will be. Published on Sedaily, these details gave us something specific to work off. Although unconfirmed as of yet, we can see that this is a proper flagship with a little extra. A Snapdragon 820, up to 4 GB of RAM, a 20 MP main camera and a monster 4,000 mAh battery are likely to form the final package. Read the specs table below for more details:

LG V20 features

In what is a coup for LG, the V20 will be the first phone to run Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box. With the tradition being for Nexus devices to ship with new Android versions first, this is a big deal. This is a good sign that manufacturers are working on new Android updates sooner and faster. Hopefully, this leads to more devices getting the Nougat update faster than they did Marshmallow.

We heard directly from LG that the V20 would run Nougat, in a statement published on its site (linked in the 'price and release date' section), and now Google has weighed in to confirm the news as well. On the same day that Nougat was released for Nexus devices, Google posted an image of the LG V20 on its Nougat page. It doesn't say much, but confirms that the V20 will be the first new smartphone to run Nougat. This is a small step for LG, and a giant leap for customers looking to buy this new flagship.
