BlackBerry says goodbye to hardware manufacturing

This does not mean that BlackBerry smartphones are finished. John Chen outlined the plan as follows: "The company plans to end all internal hardware development and will outsource that function to partners. This allows us to reduce capital requirements and enhance return on invested capital".

BlackBerry will continue to stand for the 'smart' in smartphone and will start to focus more on software services, such as Android security improvements Android and apps. The BlackBerry Hub is now available as a subscription for owners of smartphones from other manufacturers. You can pick it up the app via the link below.

BlackBerry already implemented this strategy for the DTEK50. The hardware mostly comes from Alcatel and the software was created by BlackBerry. The company promises to immediately distribute security updates to its users – so the same day that Google distributes it. Even the name of the smartphone indicates BlackBerry's directional pivot: DTEK is the name for a security app that shows users a list of security-related settings.

DTEK60 could continue the new BlackBerry strategy

The DTEK60 is rumored to be the newest BlackBerry smartphone and could be released in October. The BlackBerry DTEK60 is probably already in the works. This could be a pretty powerful BlackBerry. Crackberry.com reported specs like a Snapdragon 820, 4 GB of RAM and a 5.5-inch QHD display. Even a fingerprint sensor could be included. For the main camera, a 21 MP snapper will be used. WinFuture already scored the first leaked press images and can be viewed below.

Obviously, the DTEK60 is also being developed in cooperation with Alcatel. Accordingly, the BlackBerry Priv could be the last BlackBerry smartphone developed and manufactured by the company.

The DTEK50 hardware partnership was struck and if BlackBerry succeeds with this device it could continue to bring smartphones to market in this manner and therefore take less financial risks.
